Paris Guide

Eiffel Tower, Paris
What can possibly be said about Paris that you don't already know? The list of things to do and see in Paris includes some of the best known landmarks in the world. If you have been to Paris, you are probably planning a return trip. If you have not, then you can't really consider yourself a serious traveler. It is time to book your Paris hotel and plan your trip. Oh, one other thing. You simply cannot reserve a hotel in Paris for only one guest. The romance capital of the world demands that you share her delights with someone you love.

The Eiffel Tower may be the most easily recognizable landmark in the worldand definitely one of the most popular Paris sites. You really need to visit it twice: once during the day to take advantage of its observation platform, and again at night to marvel in its breathtaking illumination. The Arc de Triomphe stands at the meeting point of 12 avenues, the most notable being the Champs-Elysees. It was commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon but remained unfinished until 1836. Since 1920 the Arc has been a memorial to the unknown soldiers who have fallen in battle.

The Notre Dame Cathedral was constructed in the 12th century, but continues to leave 21st century visitors awestruck. It's one of the most popular attractions in Paris - and rightly so. Even those who may not otherwise darken the door of an art museum have to include Paris' most famous galleries on their tours. The Louvre is home to Mona Lisa and other treasures and Musee de Orsay houses the greatest collection of impressionist paintings in the world.

Notre Dame, Paris
A trip to Paris shouldn't be all queues and admission tickets, however. Take time to stroll the avenues, visit the parks, the Place des Vosges, and the plazas. Experience the unhurried pace of an authentic French dinner and window shop along Champs-Elysees. Take in a show at a cabaret or show your best moves at one of the dance clubs. Soak in the jazz at a club that doesn't close until dawn. This is a city that is meant to be experienced, not just viewed from behind a velvet rope.
